Interested in STEM education but need motivation to keep up with the research? The STEM Education Research Reading Group will be meeting three times this semester to discuss and reflect on the National Research Council’s 2012 publication titled “Discipline-Based Education Research: Understanding and Improving Learning in Undergraduate Science and Engineering.” Requested by the National Science Foundation, this publication looks across physics, chemistry, biology, the geosciences and astronomy to: •Synthesize empirical research on undergraduate teaching and learning in the sciences •Examine the extent to which the research currently influences undergraduate science instruction •Describe the intellectual and material resources that are required to further develop discipline based education research.
