First Friday Teaching Circle: All faculty (especially our new colleagues!) are welcome to participate in one or all of the First Friday Teaching Circle meetings. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among college and university students, but it is also one of the most preventable causes of death. QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), guided by certified trainers, is a program designed for everyone to learn what can be done to prevent suicide. The QPR training is an hour workshop that is both didactic and experiential in nature. It includes: an overview of national, state and University of Central of Florida specific statistics regarding suicide; the myths versus facts; identifying behavioral, verbal and situational warning signs; and practicing concrete tools in which to help someone who is in distress.
