Lessons from the Science of Learning: Using Retrieval Practice in the Classroom to Improve Learning

Thursday, October 15th, 2015
3:00pm – 4:00pm
Venue: CB1-207

This meeting is one in a series of workshops in which we present recent findings from the Science of Learning. Research has established that retrieval practice enhances long-term retention, application skills, organization skills, and transfer of knowledge to new concepts. It is important to incorporate frequent, low-stakes practice (whether it be quizzing, testing, writing, or problem solving) into the classroom as well as students' study time to promote long-term learning and retention. We will examine a summary of this research and discuss ways to implement the findings in your class.
