Winter Faculty Development Conference

The Faculty Center hosts a three-day faculty development conference at the end of the fall semester each year. The purpose of the conference is to provide an opportunity for faculty (preferably a team of faculty) to focus on a project that will transform a course or program. Themes vary by year, and some years feature multiple themes or tracks. Participants apply to attend via an online Request for Proposals (RFP) process.

The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning provides numerous $500/person grants for faculty members who are transforming courses or programs by integrating the workshop theme.

Faculty members from all colleges are invited to apply. Individual and team submissions are welcome. Please submit all Payment/Authorization forms for team members together.

Faculty will receive support from staff in campus offices such as the Faculty Center, OIR, CD&WS, SDES and the Library. These units will provide a series of hands-on experiences designed to help explore teaching techniques and student participation activities.

Participants will present a progress report during the last session of the conference; these reports will be available on the Faculty Center website for review. In addition, participants will be required to submit a final implementation report at the end of the following Spring semester.

All applications will be reviewed by members of the Faculty Center Advisory Board using the following criteria. Priority will be given to themes relating to the conference focus:

  • Quality/clarity of project
  • Completeness of project proposal
  • Viability of project
  • Benefit to University in terms of quality and productivity
  • Specific plans for accountability of outcomes
  • Completion of previous conference final reports (if applicable)
