Gradebook Management
It is critical that you not confuse which of your gradebooks has the most current information. You will want to designate one file the “master gradebook,” and all others are merely copies used to shift information to the Internet for posting.
The difficulty lies with the fact that you might be receiving input from multiple sources. Many instructors have grades they need to enter manually. If you also use Test Scoring, those results will be automatically uploaded to myUCF Grades, meaning that if you want to designate a Master Gradebook as an Excel file you keep on your home computer, you will need to constantly download those results provided by Test Scoring and manually add them to your Excel file.
Whichever method you choose, we recommend that you make use of descriptive filenames which will help you remember what each file represents. If you are keeping a Master Gradebook at home, include in the filename the course number and semester date (example: BSC2010_Fall_2006_Master_Gradebook.xls). For anyone keeping the Master Gradebook at home, don’t forget to save any updates in the normal fashion before you re-save the file as a “CSV” for uploading to myUCF Grades (this is a crucial step but sometimes forgotten!)
For similar reasons, any changes you make on your home computer to the grades should be saved in an archive fashion when you upload them to the Grades module. Because the server for myUCF Grades will keep all the files you upload to it each semester, you will want highly descriptive filenames there as well (example: BSC2010_Jan_12_2006_upload.csv)
