Starting Your CPS for PowerPoint Presentation
- Collect your PowerPoint presentation and database into a single folder, and copy this folder onto your flash drive.
- Insert the flash drive into the computer; copy/paste your CPS folder (it should contain your PowerPoint presentation and your .cps database onto the desktop).
- Double click on the CPS for PowerPoint icon located on the Desktop.
- CPS will remember the last .cps database that was used. It will either prompt to create/open a database, or it will automatically display the PowerPoint work area. If it skips the create/open a database dialogue box, go to the CPS toolbar and choose the “Open CPS Database” pull-down tab (near the top-left corner). Click on “Open Database” and choose the .cps database that the instructor recently stored on the desktop.
- Go to File > Open and choose your PowerPoint presentation file.
- Under the CPS toolbar, click on Delivery Options; click on the Receiver tab; click on “Detect CPS Receiver”. *This should happen every time the receiver is plugged into the computer.
- When you run your PowerPoint presentation, a dialogue box will appear. Choose “Automatically Upload Session Upon Completion” (only if you would like the final results to appear online for your students), type in a Session Title, choose a Session Category, and choose the CORRECT CLASS (choosing an incorrect class is one of the most common errors). Click on OK.
- Have your students turn on their clickers and hit Send. Once your students are joined in, they will be able to respond to a CPS question slide.
- Once the instructor comes to a CPS slide, a new button will appear on the bottom of the screen labeled “Engage”. Once engaged, start the question and have your students respond. *Once the instructor is engaged in a question, a student CANNOT join into the class until the instructor ends the question. It might be prudent to verify all students have joined before clicking “Engage”.
- End the question, close, and then move onto the next slide (buttons located on the left of the toolbar). Once your presentation is over, finalize by clicking on the close button on the bottom right. If done correctly, the student responses should upload automatically through eInstruction’s database.
- Close down CPS for PowerPoint and drag your CPS files/folder back onto your thumb-drive. Once you copy and paste onto your thumb-drive, it will ask if you would like to override your files. Click Yes. Delete your CPS files/folder located on the desktop and empty the recycle bin.
Suggested display settings:
Click on the CPS tab and select “Delivery Options”. Select the Teacher Managed Tab
- Auto Show Charting (this will display a bar graph after each responded question). *After the instructor ends the first question, the bar graph will be displayed on top of the presentation window. To align the graph correctly, select PPT on the bottom right of the tool bar and choose “Tile vertically 1/4, 3/4”.
- Auto Start the Question (this will begin your question as soon as they appear without requiring you to click the start button).
- When engaged in a question, you can either view the class keypads on the bottom of the screen, which only displays 33 students at a time, or you can view the class keypads on the right side of the screen, which displays 250 students at one time. To switch between the two view modes, click on the “Grid” button in the middle of the bottom toolbar to detach the grid. To align the graph correctly, select PPT on the bottom right of the tool bar and choose “Tile vertically 1/4, 3/4”. You can switch back and forth between the view modes by clicking on the “Grid” button again.
