LEARN HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH VIDEOS, IMAGES AND WEB STORIES IN MINUTES WITH ADOBE SPARK
The University of Central Florida (UCF) provides access to Adobe Creative Cloud desktop applications like Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro and more. These are powerful tools for PDF workflowsimage editinggraphic designpublication layout, and video editing, but come with a bit of a learning curve. In an effort to help UCF faculty, staff, and students more easily communicate with immediate impact and broad distribution, Adobe has developed next-generation Web tools to turn your ideas into impactful social graphics, animated videos and web stories—in minutes. Ben Forta, Adobe Senior Director for Education Initiatives, and Patrick Koster, Adobe Senior Customer Success Manager for UCF, will be co-delivering a hands-on workshop to familiarize attendees with Adobe Spark for creating engaging visual stories delivered as web browser experiences and narrated / animated videos. Monday, November 28: 3PM – 4:50PM in HPA1 125 for UCF faculty and staff. 7PM – 8:50PM in CB1 121 for UCF students.

i>clicker, the student response system used at UCF, also offers the REEF Polling cloud. With this solution, students may use either their devices (ie: phone, tablet, laptop) and/or an i>clicker. This gives instructors and students the flexibility to use what they want in the classroom without having to make an additional purchase (since many already own i>clicker or REEF app accounts).
Current i>clicker users: REEF Software frees you from having to carry a flash drive to class, as it's stored in the cloud. It also has easier Canvas integration and a few more features than i>clicker. Come check it out!

  • Choices on price/purchase: students purchase either an i>clicker remote or REEF app subscription (many already own both at UCF!)
  • No uploading of content or authoring of question: use your current ebooks, OER, power point, PDFs, etc. 
  • Canvas integration: seamlessly upload your scores to Canvas

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ABOUT FACULTY INCORPORATING GAME-BASED LEARNING IN COURSES
Peter Telep, an Associate Instructor of English, is working this year as a Faculty Center Fellow. His project focuses on gaming, game design, and the “gamification” of classes in higher education. He would like to connect with faculty who are already using games or game design elements in their classes in order to learn more about what’s happening at UCF (especially about successes and challenges). He also hopes to share the experiences with a wider audience and offer game design techniques as methods for improving student success in a variety of courses. Email Peter at peter.telep@ucf.edu if you are involved with (or even interested in) this work. Please share with friends and colleagues who might be interested as well.

UCF LEADERSHIP WEEK 2017
The LEAD Scholars Academy invites individuals to share their leadership knowledge and experience with the UCF campus during Leadership Week 2017. The committee is looking for workshops/sessions that will challenge and inspire the campus community and showcase current leadership topics. Program proposals will be evaluated and presenters will be notified by December 5, 2016.

NEWS FROM THE CENTER FOR SUCCESS OF WOMEN FACULTY
Invitation to Become a Spring 2017 Fellow for the UCF Center for Success of Women Faculty
We are pleased to announce the availability of up to four CSWF Fellow positions through the UCF Center for Success of Women Faculty for the spring 2017 semester (funding dependent). We are looking for fellows who are interested in helping the UCF faculty community to address an essential part of the CSWF mission, “providing resources to assist faculty to balance life and career”.  

We expect each fellow to develop engaging presentations on a topic of great importance to them related to career-life balance to share with colleagues. For example, a Fellow could organize and run a 1 hour workshop during the spring semester; contribute to the CSWF website (or similar media) with relevant, new information; and present a 1-hour workshop on their chosen topic at the 2017 UCF Summer Faculty Conference.  Workshops and presentations should address topics from a faculty perspective, with suggested topics including: dealing with care for aging parents or family members with special needs, new and expecting parent issues, issues related to sending your “babies” off to college, what to expect when you return from Family and Medical Leave (FMLA), balancing two careers in academia, time-management strategies, negotiation training, and personal and financial health.. We are also open to all other ideas that fit within the theme of faculty career-life balance.

Invitations to apply for this fellowship will be accepted from full-time faculty who are instructors (all ranks); lecturers (all ranks); librarians (all ranks); or assistant, associate, full, research and clinical professors. In addition, faculty must have their supervisor’s signature documenting his or her support of the application. At this time, no faculty on visiting lines will be considered. The assignment will run from January to May 2017 and carry a professional development award of $300, depending on time commitment (that must be spent prior to June 30, 2017).

Please submit a CV/resume and a one to two page statement of your proposed project and its importance to UCF faculty, including timeline, to Ms. Fran Ragsdale (fran.ragsdale@ucf.edu) by December 12, 2016.  If you have any questions, please contact the CSWF Director, Dr. Linda Walters, at linda.walters@ucf.edu.   

FACULTY WRITING CLUB FALL 2016 
Join a faculty writing club to start your fall off with a focus on productivity and camaraderie. Having trouble getting into a good writing rhythm? Need to get away from your office to get a change of perspective and a little privacy? Forget the coffee shop—join your colleagues on Thursday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in FCTL for a loosely structured writing session. We'll take five or six minutes each week to go around the room and state a goal for the time block and then spend the rest of the time working on our individual projects. Bring your own laptop or use an FCTL computer. And of course there will be coffee. Everyone is welcome!
